Luqas: the all-in-one energy manager, now with support for inverters and home batteries

More and more people in Flanders are choosing sustainable energy. Nearly 1 million roofs are equipped with solar panel installations. About 13% of these installations also have a home battery. The question remains: how can we use this energy efficiently? With the smart energy manager Luqas, you optimize your energy consumption and become less dependent on the electricity grid.

Flanders is choosing sustainable energy

With nearly 1 million solar panel installations, Flanders is fully engaged in the energy transition. Approximately 125,000 of these installations are equipped with a home battery. Solar panels help households reduce their dependence on the grid by consuming less electricity and delivering excess energy for compensation. With a home battery, this can be further optimized. Energy surpluses are stored for later use, such as in the evening. This increases self-consumption and reduces grid dependence.

Although the payback period for home batteries is currently quite long (on average 10 to 12 years), dynamic energy tariffs offer an interesting opportunity to accelerate this process. By charging the battery at low rates and using the energy when prices rise, the efficiency of home batteries can be optimized.

An additional benefit of smart energy management solutions is avoiding negative injection prices, where users have to pay to send excess energy back to the grid. With Luqas, the inverter can be switched back to prevent overproduction and associated costs.

Managing energy smarter with Luqas

The smart energy manager Luqas addresses these challenges by providing an all-in-one solution for energy management. Luqas optimally manages charging stations, heat pumps, and boilers, helping you reduce energy costs without compromising comfort. With the recent expansion of the Luqas ecosystem, Solax inverters and home batteries are now supported.

New features of Luqas:

Smart battery management:
Luqas optimizes the charging and discharging times of batteries based on future energy prices and weather forecasts. Energy is stored when prices are low and used when prices are high, significantly reducing the payback period of batteries.

Direct monitoring:
Energy generation can now be monitored directly via the inverter connection. Users get a clear dashboard in the Luqas app without extra hardware like a pulse counter.

Handling negative injection prices:
When energy tariffs are negative, Luqas first increases self-consumption by charging electric vehicles or heating water. If there is still surplus, the inverter is gradually limited to avoid injection costs.

Integrated overview:
The Luqas app provides a complete overview of all energy flows, including batteries and inverters, for easy management.

How does the connection work?

The connection between Luqas and the inverter is made via Modbus TCP/IP (for local networks) or Modbus RTU (wired connection). Configuration is smooth via the intuitive Luqas Wizard, just like previous modules.

The new features are initially compatible with Solax inverters and batteries. In the coming months, Huawei, SMA, and Sungrow will be added to the Luqas ecosystem.

Why choose Luqas?

Luqas stands out for:
