Interning at qbus: a look behind the scenes
At Qbus, interns don’t just join innovative projects — they grow in a supportive, open company culture. Marie, Kevin, and Lien, three of our current interns, share their experiences.
Why choose Qbus for your internship?
Marie, Kevin and Lien each had their own reasons for choosing Qbus as their internship destination.
For Marie, her personal connection to Qbus played a big role. “We already use Qbus technology at home, and that sparked my interest in electronics,” she explains. “When my parents renovated our house, my dad was deeply involved with the system. That inspired me to dive deeper into this world.”
For Kevin, Qbus came into the picture after searching for the right internship opportunity.
“During my studies, I kept an eye on job listings, and the hardware engineer internship at Qbus immediately caught my attention,” he says. “I sent an email myself to ask if I could do my internship here, and shortly after, I was in.”
Lien chose Qbus because of her interest in software development and IoT.
“I was looking for an internship in a software team and wanted to experience how software development works in a professional environment. The technology and innovation at Qbus really appealed to me.”

What makes interning at Qbus special?
The three interns emphasize the freedom they’re given to explore and experiment on their own.
“I get to start from scratch and pitch my own ideas,” says Marie. “The freedom here is great, and it allows me to learn a lot.”
For Kevin, the combination of hardware and software is the most challenging and interesting.
“I alternate between working with Linux and Node-RED, and I’m learning how to analyze problems. Sometimes you’re stuck on an issue all day, but after a good night’s sleep, the solution suddenly becomes clear.”
Lien especially enjoys being able to work independently on a project.
“The most fun and interesting part is that I get to develop an OTA manager as an internal tool myself. I’m learning a lot about how software development is approached, and I really appreciate the support from my colleagues.”
It’s also the little details that contribute to a pleasant work environment.
“From modern tools like the tablet oscilloscope to top-quality soldering irons – everything is in place to work efficiently and with quality,” Marie notes.
A typical day at Qbus
Every day starts with a stand-up meeting for Marie, where the whole team discusses progress and tasks. After that, everyone works independently or in teams. “I regularly get feedback from my internship mentor Alexander and can go to anyone with questions,” says Marie. Kevin adds, “There’s an open culture here — you don’t need to schedule a meeting to ask something. You just walk over and ask.”
For Lien, a workday looks a bit different.
“At the start of my internship week, I usually make a planning and adjust it depending on the current phase of the project. Sometimes I focus on design, now it’s more coding. There’s a lot of variety, and I can manage my own time. There are no fixed meeting moments, but my internship mentor Sarah is always available if I have questions.”

What surprised them most about working at Qbus?
Marie, Kevin, and Lien highlight the open company culture where everyone helps each other and there are no barriers. “You know everyone, and everyone says hello to each other,” says Marie. “I can easily ask colleagues questions without hesitation, and I always get help.”
Kevin compares the work atmosphere to a so-called “makerspace,” where people come together to test and develop things.
“The mindset here is special. There’s freedom, openness, and strong collaboration.”
Lien was especially surprised by the complexity of some projects and how much time goes into the details. “There’s a lot of consultation with colleagues, and everything is thoroughly tested until it works perfectly.”
What's next in their internship?
Marie is excited about testing prototypes.
“I’m working on the updated Tastu switch, and it would be amazing if my design eventually goes into production.”
Kevin is especially looking forward to the integration between AFAS and Jira. “A great challenge that could really make an impact on the company’s processes.”
Lien mainly wants to successfully complete her project. “I want to deliver a tangible product that the company can truly use. The project is well-defined and achievable, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

What advice do they have for future interns?
Marie, Kevin, and Lien encourage future interns not to be afraid to learn and experiment.
“You don’t have to know everything right away. Take your time to settle in,” says Marie.
Kevin highlights the variety of projects: “Here, you get the chance to gain experience in different departments and work alongside experts.”
Lien adds: “Be open to new things, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and make the most of this opportunity to grow. You’re in a learning environment here, so ask as many questions as you can.”
In addition to the content of the work, the atmosphere at Qbus is also highly appreciated.
“The fun and team-building activities are great,” says Marie. “There’s a real feedback culture, and the support you get in a smaller team is fantastic.”
Lien also enjoys the Friday happy hours, where you get to know your colleagues in a different way.
